Local Activities

Guests say…   “Amazing place to stay in north Wales for biking, horse riding, kayaking etc..”  “The area is very lovely, set in a valley south east of the big Snowdonia peaks, but easily within striking distance of Snowdon..”  “The most exciting for us was white water rafting. A definite must try”

Identified as ‘one of the top 10 countries to visit in the world’ and one of the ‘finest natural playgrounds in Europe’ (Rough Guide), there is no better time to enjoy Snowdonia. Lonely Planet ranks this area one of the ‘top regions to visit‘ in the world, and we are perfectly located to access the most exciting group activities and days out.  Here are some ideas and links, by travel time from our doorstep:

From the doorstep:

From short strolls down to the river on the estate, to epic adventures, there are multiple trails to pick up direct from the house.  Highlights include the Snowdonia Slate Trail which traverses up the magical valley, Cwm Cynfal.  Another favourite is Cym Teigl, taking the route followed by paintings from the London National Gallery being hidden in a converted slate mine chamber during World War II.  Alternatively, take in the amazing Iron Age fort at Bryn Castell nearby

5-10 minutes to:

Zip-World Titan (Europe’s only four-person zip line with speeds up to 70mph!), Bounce Below (underground trampolines!), Go Below Ultimate Extreme (underground adrenelin adventures), some of the UK’s best downhill mountain-biking, the world famous Ffestiniog steam railway, or take the new 500ft deep tour of the Lechwedd Slate Caverns featuring Britain’s steepest cable railway

10-20 minutes to:

Italy-inspired Portmeiron (host for Festival No 6), stunning sandy beaches such as Harlech and Borth y Gest, more mountain biking, for example at the UK’s best* trail centre, Coed y Brenin Forest, with it’s award winning cafe, try your hand at guided fly-fishing, or go pony trekking near the coast

20+ minutes to:

Historic castles, white-water rafting at Ganolfan, horse riding with mountain views, adventurous rock climbing, speed through the trees on the Fforest Coaster (25 mins), Canoeing and Sailing in the sea (25 mins), mountaineering at Crib Goch, pony trekking on the beach (35-40 mins), try europe’s longest and the world’s fastest zip line (35-40 mins), or hike up Snowdon (35-40 mins) to see the best view in Britain*!

Idyllic but not remote – just a 5 minute walk from the estate brings you to the village of Llan Ffestiniog with a small grocery store and a pub with a warm welcome, local ales and hearty food!
